WorldPOINT Inc. is an Application Service Provider (ASP) for the insurance industry. The corporation was formed in June 2000 in Amherst, New York and began marketing its services nationwide that October.  Our offices are now located in Lancaster NY.  WorldPOINT provides application hosting and trade-specific services to the insurance, travel, and other industries. We utilize a state-of-the-art data center with redundant power and bandwidth, as well as providing website, administration and consulting services.  WorldPOINT has clients in 16 states and Great Britain.

WorldPOINT has been certified as “Safe” by DataCertified.com.  This is a firm which investigates businesses, data centers and ASP’s for data security, redundancy, and safety, and certifies as "Safe" those companies that withstand vigorous testing and standards.  This is especially important for our clients in this age of data and identity theft.

Unlike most hosting companies, our server facility is in our own office, with our IT staff working in the center itself.  We have over two dozen Dell servers and a drive array that can be augmented to nearly a terabyte (1,000 GB) by simply adding drives.  All production servers (those that clients log into) are identical and are interchangeable.  We can change the server customers use by simply throwing a software switch pointing your agency to an alternate server. 

Each of the server’s multiple power supplies is connected to separate battery backup units, which are tied to two separate city power lines.  An automatic switch senses power drop-offs on all lines and will, after a few of minutes of battery power, turn on our rooftop electric generator, which is fed by natural gas (no diesel tank to fill).  The redundant battery backup units can more than adequately power all servers during a shorter failure or brownout.  The advanced switch also automatically tests the generator several times a month

Data backups are done at least three different times each night, and each afternoon a hard drive with your data and a tape backup with historical data leaves the building with one of the IT staff.  In the event of a catastrophic loss in our headquarters, we have set up a ready-to-run second location in another city here in Western New York.  This location’s servers are synchronized with our main data center for user and security information.  Using the off-site hard drive, clients’ programs and data can be available in as little as two hours time..
